Due to the expansion of the State of Emergency situation in the Kansai area, including Osaka, Universal Studios Japan decided to postpone the grand opening of Super Nintendo World, originally scheduled for February 4.

The Super Nintendo World was scheduled to open on February 4. A state of emergency was previously declared last Friday until at least February 7 to cover the Tokyo area, including Chiba, home of the Tokyo Disney Resort. Both Tokyo Disney Resort and Universal Studios Japan have announced that they will limit capacity to 5,000 visitors a day during the emergency.

The state of emergency is also set to expire on February 7 in Osaka from now on. Universal Studios Japan has stated that it will announce a new opening date once the state of emergency is lifted.

There are a number of details available in the meantime, including the 15-minute tour of Shigeru Miyamoto’s land, the exciting buckets of popcorn, menus for Yoshi’s Snack Island and even a large portion of the merchandise!

While this is disappointing news, it is in the interest of the safety of the Visitor and the Crew Member in the park. We can only hope that the situation for COVID-19 in Japan will improve so that the Super Nintendo World can be opened safely as soon as possible.
