Bravely Default II Gambler | how to unlock the player class

Bravely Default II is the latest in a series of new RPGs that pay homage to some of the classics of the nineties genre – and like its predecessors, BD2 pays the greatest tribute through its early work system – including some classes that are completely optional to unlock, such as Player.

There are twenty-four jobs in total, and if you want to know more about them, go ahead and access our full Bravely Default 2 job guide, which has lists of skills and all kinds. We also have some suggestions of the best jobs, subjobs and job combinations in BD2, in case you need them. But on this page? Let’s quickly explain how to unlock the player job class, which is completely optional and easy to ignore.

How to unlock the player in Bravely Default 2

We talked a little bit about the Player in our work guide, but since some of you just want to know about it, without spoiler, we thought about sharing it on a separate guide page. Here’s the problem: you can unlock the Gambler class in Chapter 1. Once you reach the point where you unlock the Beastmaster asterisk, you will be able to arrest the side mission that captures you, Player.

You need to be the city of Savalon, and you need to go to the Savalon Gaming Hall which is on the north side of the city. Because how else would you unlock the player than by participating a little in the … game? It’s all pretty obvious, actually.

Inside the game room, you’ll talk to Shirley to introduce you to Bind and Divide, which is the optional Bravely Default II card game minigame. This game is not a Triple Triad, but it is quite decent – if, er, very confusing. We haven’t figured out how to play yet, despite the best efforts by BD2 NPCs to teach us – but we were able to handle the card games needed to unlock Gambler.

The ‘Take a Gamble’ mission that begins after talking to Shirley basically requires you to defeat a bunch of characters spread across the Savalon Gaming Hall. Work your way down the corridor, defeating as many NPCs as you can, starting with Orpheus, who is relaxing in the northeast corner of the corridor. After Orpheus, go around the other players – except Shirley. When everyone is defeated, STOP!

Now that you have defeated everyone, Shirley, who taught you the game, will play with you again – without barriers. Before playing Bind & Divide against Shirley, save your game. If you lose this game of this rather obtuse card game, you will be forced to reload the game; in fact, it results in an end game. So save before you face it on the cards.

With Shirley defeated, you will now have to fight her in a real combat boss battle to unlock the Asterisk Gambler. It is not that difficult, but again, it is good that you have saved, because if you fail in this fight, the game is over.

If you found the most recent history struggles at this stage manageable, you shouldn’t think that Shirley has a real problem, however. We found that there is more danger in losing the card game to her, as of course it has a random element! But again – so does the Gambler Class, maintaining the tradition of other versions of this class elsewhere.

The Gambler class is potentially powerful, but you have to understand that your game skill set is highly random, as you might expect, given the theme of the job. However, players have solid magic stats, which means it can be a good job to pair with mages. They are also great if you are in desperate need of money and need to earn some money.
