Brandy, Whoopi Goldberg and the Cinderella cast of Rodgers and Hammerstein get together

They starred in the 1997 remake of Cinderella, Rodgers & Hammerstein, 1997, of racial diversity.

And now Brandy, Whoopi Goldberg, Bernadette Peters and other stars of the ABC film for television have come together virtually to remember to work on innovative production.

The cast, which also included Jason Alexander, Victor Garber, Veanne Cox and Paolo Montalban, for the conversation that was moderated by Entertainment Weekly.

The meeting was in honor of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella arriving on the Disney + streaming service shortly after midnight on Friday, November 12.

Brandy (full name: Brandy Norwood) called the film a ‘game changer’, although it has not been available for broadcast in recent years and appears to be sold out on physical media, although older DVD copies and VHS tapes can still be found online.

‘It was a game changer, as if it were so different, and it gave everyone the opportunity to just play these iconic characters and see it in a different way. It was so magical, ‘she gushed.

His costar Goldberg, who played Queen Constantine, added that ‘much of it came from Whitney’s heart and soul [Houston]. I know that a lot of what you are seeing is what she wanted. ‘

The late singer, who died in 2012 at the age of 48, starred as Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother while also producing the film.

Peters, who was simply considered a stepmother in the film, was honored to be part of the “multicultural” film years before Hollywood recognized films starring black actors as a major commercial force.

“It was an honor to be part of something so wonderful back then, and even now, and it was multicultural, and it was so wonderful that the kids watched and could have fun and all the different types of people that were in it, and not even question it,” she said.

Cox jumped to remember how many times the fans shared his love of the musical with her.

“A few weeks pass, even now after how many years – 25, when someone doesn’t come to me and say how much it meant to them, and how much it changed their lives, and how much it started lives,” she recalled.

Alexander agreed, adding: ‘It comes when you meet people often, and they talk about this particular Cinderella, and they say that, and they say’ Brandy was my Cinderella ‘.’

Montalban, who opposite Brandy as Prince Christopher, agreed that the singer was the right person for the role.

He remembered how safe she looked when he made his grand entrance to his family’s palace.

“When Brandy showed up in her Cinderella dress, there was no need to act, and I actually had to breathe ten more times because she was so beautiful at the top of the stairs,” he revealed.

‘And they probably took the first shot because I recently saw that part of it and it was like this man wasn’t breathing because he saw the love of his life appear at the top of the stairs.’

Montalban had no problem playing the role, as he had already played the prince in a school production of the musical Rodgers & Hammerstein.

The ABC version of Cinderella was originally planned to star Houston in the title role, but she felt she had aged out of the role when the green light was finally given.

Instead, she sought out Brandy for the role.

The TV movie had mixed reviews, but it became ABC’s most-watched musical in decades, with the network’s biggest Sunday audience in 10 years, with an astonishing 60 million people tuning in to watch.
