Brandon Nimmo closes first homer in Mets victory in spring

Observations of the Mets spring training game, Thursday:

Rapid explosion

Brandon Nimmo finished 2-by-2 with a homer leading the game for the Mets in his 8-4 display victory over the Nationals at Port St. Lucie. Nimmo returned to the center of the field after starting on DH the day before.

Running Men

The Nationals went 3 out of 4 in stolen base attempts against James McCann and Mets substitutes. Victor Robles ended with two of those thefts.

Caught my eye

Former Mets boss Fred Wilpon watched the first entries from the game behind the starting sign. Wilpon, whose family sold the team to Steve Cohen in October, was at the camp for the second time this spring.

Mets has a blank day in the program and the complex will be closed.
