It was a tough start for the 2020-21 basketball season for freshman guard Brandon Boston Jr.
Boston entered the season as one of America’s best recruits and one of the first five projected choices in the 2021 NBA Draft, but after shooting 35% to start the season, the six-foot guard lost a few minutes and watched his draft stock drop.
After Boston launched a six-point performance in 3-9 shots and booed at the Rupp Arena during the game against Vanderbilt on Tuesday, Boston turned to Twitter to say it needs no sympathy for its game in the first nine games.
“I don’t need sympathy,” said Boston. “I am a man who faces all challenges.”

The tweet came after John Calipari’s press conference, where the UK coach asked fans to gather behind Boston during his fall.
“We need our fans to support BJ absolutely,” pleaded Calipari. “I don’t know why anyone would be unpleasant to someone. If you want to be nasty, be nasty to me. It’s my fault. Don’t be unpleasant to him. I was the one who put you in the game. So, if you’re angry, be angry with me. Be positive. Everyone left Devin alone. When Devin fought early, no one really caught Devin. Our fans left him alone and let him do his thing and look where Devin is now. And now I’m saying the same thing.
“Our fans haven’t been bad at BJ. They have been very good because they are good people. They are not unpleasant. They are not trolls. They are not like that. So now, you’ll see it start to come – and you know what? You will feel like you have played a part in this. “
Earlier in the evening, on the SEC Network broadcast, commentator Tom Hart confirmed that Boston has been living with Calipari during the difficult crisis. The UK coach previously noted that a player was staying at his home during his radio program on Monday night.
A strong statement for the freshman guard. Hopefully it will change on Saturday against Florida.
