Only 123 games remain in the 2020-21 college basketball season. Almost half of them will be played Thursday. The NCAA tournament selection committee began meeting on Wednesday to begin the field selection and seeding process. The finish line is almost here.
At the bottom of the bracket on Wednesday, Xavier lost to Butler 70-69 in overtime in the opening round of the Big East Tournament. This is the Musketeers’ sixth defeat in their last eight games and the worst defeat of the season.

Syracuse beat NC State 89-68 in his third win over Wolfpack this season. This only marginally improved the tournament curriculum for Orange, but with Xavier’s defeat, the two switched places in the bracket. To do this, Syracuse also had to jump in Saint Louis.
Orange is not sure, of course, but a victory on Friday against Virginia would help.
Elsewhere in the ACC tournament, Clemson and Louisville lost a seed row each after defeats to Miami and Duke, respectively. For Clemson, this defeat is the worst of the season and the first one out of Quad 1. Louisville is now 2-1 against Duke and is expected to beat the national team on Sunday.
The AAC, MAC, MEAC and WAC conference tournaments start Thursday. The best teams from Big 12 and Big East will also be in action on Thursday, but we have to wait another day for the first seeds in the Big Ten and SEC.
It was a difficult year for the top finishers in the leagues. Siena became the seventh team to lose in their conference tournament and the fifth to lose in their first game. The saints lost to seed No. 9 Iona 55-52.
