Another suspect was caught by surveillance footage, but is still on the run.
A 12-year-old boy from Washington, DC, was arrested and charged with a series of four armed car thefts in the city, all of which took place in less than an hour.
The incidents started at approximately 6:29 pm on Thursday, March 4, when two suspects reportedly approached a person sitting in their vehicle, brandishing a gun for them and demanding that they get out of the vehicle, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD)
“The victim did not obey and fled the scene,” the MPD said in a statement.
The suspects attacked again 46 minutes later, at approximately 7:15 pm, just a few blocks from their initial car theft attempt, when, again, they approached an individual sitting in his car, showed the firearm and demanded that they get out of the vehicle. This person also did not follow the suspect’s orders and fled the scene.
Just five minutes later, at approximately 7:20 pm, the suspects took a third approach to a victim, showed them the firearm, and subsequently demanded the keys to the victim’s vehicle before the suspects fled the scene on foot.
“Around 7:24 pm, the suspects approached the [last] victim, who was sitting in his vehicle, at block 1000 of Evarts Street, Northeast, ”said the MPD in a note. “One of the suspects brandished a gun and demanded that the victim get out of the vehicle. The victim complied and the suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. One of the suspects was arrested shortly after. The victim’s vehicle has been recovered. “
According to the MPD, a 12-year-old male from Southeast, DC, was arrested the same night and charged with crimes of armed robbery. Another suspect who was with the 12-year-old suspect was captured by surveillance footage, but has not yet been arrested and is still on the run.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the incident is still under investigation and offers a reward of up to $ 10,000 for anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a person responsible for a violent crime in the District of Columbia.
