With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl LV title, the order for the first 96 choices of the 2021 NFL draft is set. Lions will take seventh place in the first round, preventing any further negotiations.
The first mock post-Super Bowl draft of our Draft Wire friends shows Lions exploring the quarterback’s development path with the first round selection. North Dakota, QB Trey Lance, is one of the most environmentally friendly prospects in a long time. He started for just one year for Bison and launched less than 250 passes at the FCS level.
But he is also one of the most promising young QBs in terms of physical and athletic potential. He can play with precision, speed and movement, as well as being a talented runner when asked to load the stone. Almost all talent appraisers recognize that Lance needs at least a year before he is ready for the NFL, a luxury that Lions can afford by having Jared Goff already in the den.
In the second round, Draft Wire editor Luke Easterling addresses the huge hole in the wide receiver. LSU wideout Terrace Marshall gets the nod to Lions. He is a ready replacement for the free agent Kenny Golladay, a burly recipient capable of making contested catches. He has faster feet and is better off the line than Golladay, though.
