A Boston doctor detailed the distressing experience he suffered from having a severe allergic reaction after receiving his first dose of Moderna’s COVID vaccine on Thursday.

Dr. Hossein Sadrzadeh is the first person to report such a reaction to the Modern vaccine, reported CNN. At least six people had similar reactions to the Pfizer vaccine.
Sadrzadeh’s heart rate skyrocketed and his blood pressure plummeted, he told CNN. He used his EpiPen, and his colleagues at Boston Medical Center took him to the emergency room.
“I want [people] to carry your EpiPen if they have it at home and also inform the person giving the injection that they have a serious allergic reaction, ”Sadrzadeh told the Boston Globe. “I knew the symptoms. I had the experience. I was a doctor and I was scared to death. Imagine someone who doesn’t have the information. “
Sadrzadeh has a serious allergy to shellfish, according to CNN. He told the network he was concerned about getting the vaccine, especially after he learned of the rare adverse reactions to the Pfizer injection.
More than 1 million people received the first of the two necessary doses of a COVID vaccine, developed by Pfizer or Moderna, according to data from the CDC. A handful of serious allergic reactions have been reported, including Sadrzadeh.
Researchers have not yet discovered what caused the reactions in the vaccine, CNN reported.
Sadrzadeh praised the Boston Medical Center team, telling CNN that they “responded exceptionally well”. He told Moderna that he would be willing to provide a blood sample to help them investigate, according to the Globe.
More than 330,000 people in the USA died of COVID-19.
