Boston Celtics’ Marcus Smart hopes to return to the start of the second half of the season, sources said

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Marcus is expected to continue recovering his left calf injury during the All-Star break from March 5 to 10, with hopes of returning to the team early in the second half of the season, sources told ESPN.

Smart, working to fully recover from the injury that occurred on January 30, returned to travel with the Celtics on Sunday in New Orleans and participated in light activities on the court, said coach Brad Stevens before his team’s game against Pelicans .

The Celtics are 5-6 without Smart in the lineup since his injury, and he would likely lose seven more games by the end of the first half of the season on March 4.

Smart was having his best NBA season, including career records on points (13.1), assists (6.1) and steals (1.8). He also leads the Celtics in defensive categories that include deflections and lost ball recoveries.
