BOSTON – Bruins defender Brandon Carlo “is feeling better” but remains week after week after the Washington Capitals striker Tom Wilson was suspended for seven games, coach Bruce Cassidy said on Sunday .
“He’s obviously going to be gone for a while,” said Cassidy.
The NHL suspended Wilson for the fifth time in his career on Saturday after his hit in the first half of Friday night’s game sent Carlo to the hospital in an ambulance. The Capitals wing will also lose $ 311,781.61 in salaries.
“What separates this coup from others is the direct and significant contact with the face and head of a defenseless player, causing a violent impact with the glass,” the league said in a statement. “This is a player with a substantial disciplinary history who takes advantage of an opponent who is in a helpless position and does so with significant strength.”
Although no diagnosis was made public, Carlo was dizzy as he emerged from the ice after Wilson hit his head on the glass, a telltale sign of a concussion. Cassidy called the coup “predatory”, but declined to elaborate on the suspension.
“I was happy that they looked at it and evaluated some discipline,” he said. “I made my feelings known about what I felt with the blow … I kind of changed and prepared for New Jersey.”
The Bruins return to the ice on Sunday night against the demons.
“The boys are in a good place,” said Cassidy, adding that she sent a text message to Carlo on Sunday morning. “They are concerned about Brandon. Receiving good news that he is feeling better helps our group. We are a close-knit group.”
