Patrick Mahomes was making faces – and limping – after the Chiefs’ second touchdown on Sunday. He hurt his left toe, needing attention in the blue medical tent between sets.
But that became a footnote (pun intended) when the Chiefs’ quarterback left with a concussion with 7:11 remaining in the third quarter.
The bad news for the Chiefs is the uncertainty about Mahomes’ status for the AFC Championship Game. He will have to receive authorization from an independent neurologist before he can return.
The good news for bosses is that they don’t expect their toes to affect them.
“Yes, I think he’ll be fine now with his toe,” said Chiefs coach Andy Reid, via Charles Goldman of The Chiefs Wire. “I think we’ll be fine there.”
Practice reports on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will provide an indication of where Mahomes is in his attempt to lead the Chiefs for the second consecutive Super Bowl.
