There are many truly wireless headphones on the market, but few of them can claim to be as exclusive as the new Bose Sport Open headphones. They are rated IPX4, can last 8 hours of battery life on a single charge – and make virtually no contact with the skin, sitting above the ear and allowing listeners to be aware of their surroundings in a way that virtually no other headset can do.

According to Bose, the buttons gently hold the outer crest of the ear to remain locked in place without the need for an in-ear tip. There is also no compression or vibration, since they do not use the same audio transmission methods as bone-guided headphones. Instead, each button uses “a tiny dipole transducer placed and positioned for loud and clear personal audio that sits in the ear”. This should make them great for listening to music, podcasts and more, while keeping you alert during daily activities and exercises. This idea of connecting audio a short distance from the ear is also something that we saw in Bose frames.

The open design of the buttons reminds me of an old Bluetooth headset.

Bose Sport Open headsets have simple button controls that allow quick access to common tasks, such as skipping songs or calling your voice assistant. With an IPX4 water resistance rating, they must be prepared to deal with sweaty exercises and rainy running sessions. And thanks to a recorded antenna and Bluetooth 5.1, the connection seems to be solid and reliable as well. The buds are compatible with Android and iOS, with an application to control and customize the sound settings.

The new Bose buttons are available for pre-order today on the manufacturer’s website and at Best Buy for just about $ 200. They are due to start shipping to consumers later this month.
