Miami Mayor Francis Suarez paid a visit to The Boring Company’s Las Vegas Convention Center Loop (LVCC) in Sin City over the weekend.
“Today I had the opportunity to visit @boringcompany tunnels in Las Vegas. After seeing the innovative and excellent work @elonmusk and his team did, I can’t wait to see what we can do for Miami, ”wrote the mayor on Twitter.
Mayor Suarez shared photos of his productive trip to Las Vegas. He rode a Tesla Model X and may have taken a trip through the LVCC Loop.
He also commented that the Boring Company Miami Loop “would revolutionize Miami’s modern traffic-oriented lifestyle”. As cities continue to grow, traffic-oriented developments become more relevant. According to the Institute for Transport and Development Policy, traffic-oriented development focuses on the design of urban spaces with easy walking, bicycle connections and “almost excellent” traffic services.
In Miami, Mayor Suarez was interested in building a Boring Company tunnel to ease congestion in a specific part of the city. He wants to build a three-kilometer tunnel under the Miami River, thus reviving the Brickell Tunnel Project proposed by former mayor Maurice Ferré over 40 years ago.
After visiting Las Vegas, Suarez may have expanded his vision of a Boring Company project in Miami. During a press conference on Monday, March 22, the Mayor of Miami shared his vision of a multi-stop pedestrian transportation system between Brickell and Little Haiti, reported the Miami Herald. Based on its new concept, the potential project of the Boring Company Miami Loop has grown.
