A cute fashion story about President Joe Biden’s expensive taste in watches is drawing a bitter reaction from leftist advocates on social media.
“The headlines complaining about Biden’s Peloton and Rolex after 4 years of a guy with a literal gold toilet are beyond parody,” Laura Bassett, GQ writer, tweeted Friday.
The anger was directed at The New York Times for his Friday report on the $ 7,000 Rolex Datejust watch that Biden – despite his beloved image of ordinary Joe – displayed at its opening this week.
The ticker is part of a collection of high-quality Swiss watches owned by the Scranton-born commander-in-chief, the report noted. Biden was also seen wearing an Omega Speedmaster and an Omega Seamaster, each of which sold for up to $ 6,000.
But it is a stark contrast to the popular Timexes and Shinolas preferred by most other modern presidents, including Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama – that is, until luxury-loving Donald Trump arrived with his Patek Philippes and Vacheron Constantins.
The implicit criticism of the new president has generated reams of angry tweets, Fox News reported.
“They must be really bored at the Times. Is there nothing else to focus on? ” complained about Crooked Media host Akilah Hughes. “Shut up.”
“What is the worst presidential scandal”, weighted corresponding Vox Ian Millhiser, “the time when Biden wore a Rolex, the time when Obama asked for Dijon mustard or the time when Trump encouraged an insurrectional crowd to violently take over the Capitol in a vain attempt to overturn an election he lost?”
The report came days after news broke that Biden’s expensive Peloton stationary bike could be banned from the White House because its network resources pose a security risk.
