Bond film delays are causing havoc in product placement for brands

The pandemic delays in the latest James Bond film are causing problems for its marketing deals, with advertisers concerned that the film may end up with outdated product placements, The sun is reporting. Bond’s 25th film, No time to die, is due to be released in theaters on October 8, more than a year after its originally scheduled release.

“Some of those things were the most recent models when they started shooting,” said a source The sun, “But when the film is released now it will look like Daniel Craig and all the other cast members are carrying something that has been out for years. This is not really the purpose of these businesses. ”

Although the film is supposed to feature Omega watches, Bollinger champagne and Adidas shoes, it seems likely that Nokia phones from HMD Global will risk dating more quickly. HMD Global announced last year that the film would include its Nokia 8.3 5G from last year, and TechRadar reports that the film will also include Nokia 7.2, first released in 2019.

The sun reports that the film may face reshoots to hide its outdated products and cites a source saying that some scenes can be “carefully edited”.

“The big tech companies want the stars to have all the promising new products to help promote them and sell them to fans,” said the source. The sun. “This means that some of the scenes will have to be edited and analyzed very carefully for things to be updated.”

We may have already seen an example of this type of editing in action. Although one of the stars of the film, Lashana Lynch, appears to be using a Nokia 8.3 5G in the ad above (note the camera flash to the left of the array), an earlier version released in March 2020 appears to feature a Nokia 5.3 complete with a reader fingerprint mounted on the back and headset on top.

No time to die was originally scheduled to be released in April 2020, but was postponed to November last year after the pandemic forced cinemas worldwide to close. The film was later postponed to April 2021 and then to October 2021. As long as there are no further delays, the film is scheduled to be released about a year and a half after its original planned premiere.

Fortunately for HMD, there is at least one phone in the movie that probably doesn’t date much. According TechRadar, No time to die will also present a classic Nokia 3310, a phone that was originally launched in 2000.
