Bodies of two hikers found in Acadia National Park, Maine

The bodies of a man and a woman were found in Acadia National Park, Maine, on Sunday morning, according to the CBS subsidiary Portland WGME. The two hikers apparently fell 30 meters along the ice-covered cliffs of Dorr Mountain, Acadia National Park said.

Hikers are believed to be a 28-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, both from Rutland, Massachusetts. They arrived near Bar Harbor on March 16 and were last heard on Thursday.

Authorities began looking for the two on Friday night, after the family reported the hikers’ disappearance. Concerns arose when hikers were unable to check out of the hotel or return the rental car.

The US Coast Guard deployed a Cape Cod helicopter and a ground search was carried out on Saturday morning.

Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue and a Maine Forest Service helicopter helped National Park Rangers locate the bodies.
