Bobo and Friend exchange South Carolina for Auburn football

Auburn football coach vacancies are being filled at a rapid pace, with Mike Bobo and Will Friend joining Bryan Harsin’s Auburn football team.

After completing the hiring of Derek Mason for Auburn’s football program, new coach Bryan Harsin has just added two more members to his coaching staff.

Mike Bobo and Will Friend are going to the plains:

The report says that offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, along with offensive coach Will Friend, must accept the same roles at Auburn under first-year coach Bryan Harsin, who took over at The Plains after seven years in Boise State.

That would end a yearlong run for Bobo with the Gamecocks and a run that was officially only about two weeks for Friend in South Carolina.

I can sit here and kick off the bad 2020 season in South Carolina, but remember that Gamecocks actually have the right to brag about Auburn football … which happened to be one of their two defeats in the year. Bo Nix’s three interceptions were the catalyst for that game, in which they had several important plays, but in the end they handed the game over to the SEC’s USC (Trojans are the real USC FYI).

These errors could be eliminated (I had to) with a renewed offensive system that is not so predictable. Often, two runs were followed by a screen sweep on the third downhill, and there is not much Nix can do to overcome defenders who knew what schemes the attack had in place.

We are not asking for an offensive option in the Army or Navy football vein, nor are we looking for Pete Carroll’s attack on the West Coast.

What Fly War Eagle hopes Bobo can bring to the team is an air of unpredictability. With Nix improving in many ways last season, and Cord Sandberg being replaced by Dematrius Davis as his backup to potentially start a fire under Nix, there is every reason to believe that things are looking up in 2021.
