Bob Odenkirk may have just explained why Kim Wexler is not on ‘Breaking Bad’

You better call Saul it’s a joy to watch, but there’s always been a little unease knowing that Kim Wexler wasn’t Breaking Bad. Kim has become such a regular and vital part of Jimmy McGill’s life that it is difficult to understand his absence. Some viewers believe that something bad is going to happen to her before the show ends, hence her disappearance. But based on Bob Odenkirk’s comments, we’re not sure if that’s the case.

Bob Odenkirk speaks ‘Better Call Saul’ and how it came to be

In a March interview with GQ, Odenkirk opened up about the origins of You better call Saul. As showrunner and co-creator Peter Gould previously told Collider, they wanted to capitalize on the success of Breaking Bad and decided to build a spinoff around the miserable lawyer Saul Goodman, who has become a fan favorite. Odenkirk says it was easy to make up Saul’s story because Breaking Bad never entered his personal life.

“We didn’t have to torture ourselves to invent Jimmy because Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad it was only seen at work, ”he told GQ around the 3:45 mark. “So, because of that, there is nothing established about your personal life and there is nothing that needs to be understood or explained.”

This could explain why Kim is not Breaking Bad?

Odenkirk’s comment raises questions about what really happens to Kim in You better call Saul. Maybe she’s just missing Breaking Bad because the show focused only on Saul’s professional life – not because something drastic happened to her. Maybe she is still working pro bono and living a simple life with Jimmy when the original series begins.

But at the same time, there are many signs suggesting a different outcome. Viewers know that Kim has been making choices that keep an eye on her, especially in Season 5, when she launches an attack on Howard Hamlin that even Saul rejects. Her increasingly obscure ways have led to all kinds of theories, including that Kim will become a silent partner in Saul’s company, Ice Station Zebra Associates, or that she will even end up dead.

Gould previously addressed speculation about the fate of Kim and Jimmy, reported The Observer. “We have a lot of ideas about where Jimmy and Kim are going,” he said. “There are some ideas that I am very excited about, but there is also a lot of sadness about where this is going.”

Either way, we know that eventually something will happen that will separate them – be it death or something less dramatic – since Kim is absolutely out of the picture when Saul flees New Mexico to Omaha.

Instant scenes reveal that he lives a lonely life as the manager of a local Cinnabon. However, fans will have to wait until You better call Saul Season 6 to see what exactly happens from there. The release date is not yet known, but the show is expected to return sometime in 2022.
