The BMW M5 sedan will get an even hotter version of the CS – or racing sport – next year. The German automaker teased the new M5 CS on the M division’s official Instagram page earlier this week, although the post has already been removed. Fortunately, our friends on Autoblog managed to take some screenshots and gave us the green light to publish what you see above.
The M5 CS will follow the same philosophy as other BMW CS models, such as the M2 CS that we reviewed recently. That means it will have more power, less weight and some unique aerodynamic improvements.
On the power front, the M5’s 4.4-liter biturbo V8 will have a small increase, but exactly when it’s not clear. Autoblog says the M5 CS will have 635 horsepower, but a similar report from Car and Driver suggests 626 horsepower. In any case, these are small increases over the 617 hp M5 Competition, and the torque value of the engine should remain unchanged at 553 foot-pounds.
More importantly, the CS will lose a lot of weight compared to the standard M5. Thanks to a carbon fiber hood and carbon fiber bucket seats (from the new M3 and M4), the M5 CS is expected to drop 154 pounds.
Finally, the M5 CS will run on a new set of Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, with rubber from the 275/35 series at the front and 285/35 at the rear. Carbon ceramic brakes will be standard and you can get forged gold-painted wheels, like the M2 CS. Thank God.
Much like the M2 CS, the M5 CS will likely have a high price premium. O 2021 BMW M5 Competition starts at $ 112,095 including $ 995 for destination, so our best guess is that the M5 CS should start somewhere in the $ 135,000 to $ 140,000 range. We’ll know more when the M5 CS launches in early 2021.
2021 BMW M5 is still a monster that crushes continents, and that’s a good thing
