BMW introduces i4 electric sedan with 300-mile range

BMW today unveiled the BMW i4, its new all-electric vehicle, and confirmed that it will have up to 300 miles of range based on the EPA standard.

After the German automaker brought the BMW i3 to the market in 2013, we thought it would launch the BMW i4, i5 and so on, but that was not really how it happened.

It took BMW seven years to launch another fully electric vehicle, the BMW iX3, and it didn’t even launch it in North America.

But now we are finally getting the BMW i4.

Today, as part of the BMW Group’s Annual Conference, the automaker has decided to reveal the vehicle, which should not be publicly revealed for a few months.

However, they are not making a full disclosure with all the specifications and features. This will happen in the coming weeks.

For now, BMW is disclosing some details such as the fact that the BMW i4 will be offered in different versions that will allow “up to 590 km (WLTP) and up to 300 miles (EPA)” range based on its own estimates.

It will have a power of up to 390kW / 530HP, which will allow an acceleration from 0 to 100km / h (62 mph) in about four seconds.

With these specifications, the company also released the first images of the BMW i4 electric sedan:

BMW also released a quick video of a pre-production prototype of the BMW i4 circulating:

BMW is calling the i4 “a 4-door all-electric Gran Coupé” and confirmed today that it “will enter the market in the course of 2021”, along with a BMW M Performance variant.

Pieter Nota, member of the BMW AG Board of Directors responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales, commented on the revelation:

“With its sporty appearance, the best driving dynamics and zero local emissions, the BMW i4 is a true BMW. This makes the heart of the BMW brand now beat fully electric, ”

Along with the BMW iX, the i4 is expected to be the new electric car of the German brand this year.

More details on the features and interior of the BMW i4 are due to be released in the coming weeks.
