BMW driver dies after car hits bus stop in Lauderhill

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – Authorities are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Monday morning in Lauderhill.

The accident was reported at around 1:30 am in the Northwest 16th Street and North State Road 7 area.

Lauderhill police lieutenant Michael Santiago said police officers arrived at the scene to find two vehicles with major damage.

He said detectives believe a BMW involved in the collision was speeding north on State Road 7 while a Mercedes-Benz was heading south before trying to turn left to go east on Northwest 16th Street.

When the Mercedes was turning left, the two vehicles collided, causing the BMW to crash into a nearby bus stop, Santiago said.

The BMW driver was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.

The Mercedes driver was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation, Santiago said.

Santiago said North State Road 7 and Northwest 16th Street remained closed while investigators analyzed the scene. Drivers are asked to use Northwest 31st Avenue as an alternative route for the time being.
