The Blue Jays will return to play at home south of the border, according to a report by Shi Davidi and Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca. At least to open the regular 2021 season, Toronto residents will take up temporary residence in Dunedin, Florida.
As was the case with the 2020 pandemic campaign, cross-border traffic simply proved to be very difficult to manage. The plan, in this case, is to host games at home in Florida until at least mid-May.
Dunedin is certainly familiar, as it houses the team’s spring training complex. The club had considered the idea of playing there last year, but ended up opting for Buffalo, New York, home of its main secondary league affiliate.
The change in location is unlikely to have a major impact on the Blue Jays’ hopes of containment in 2021. Playing in Buffalo served the Jays very well last year as they performed well at home (17-9) and won a post- season dock.
