Blue Jays and Francisco Liriano agree to the agreement

22:00: Liriano will earn a salary of $ 1.5 million and can earn performance bonuses if he reaches majors like Jay, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi tweets.

21:12: The Blue Jays agreed to the terms of a secondary league contract with the southpaw Francisco Liriano, Like Toronto Sun’s Rob Longley first reported. He will receive an invitation to spring training for the major league.

Liriano had already launched for the 2016-17 Blue Jays, but they sent him to the Astros last season in a deal that delivered the outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to Toronto. Since then, Hernandez has been quite successful as a Blue Jay, although Liriano has been inconsistent since his time. He did, however, have a solid 3.47 ERA with 50.3 percent groundball in 70 innings and 69 appearances as a Pittsburgh reliever in 2019. The 37-year-old gave up last season due to concerns centered on COVID -19.

Since the beginning of his career in 2005, Liriano has worked in six organizations and has accumulated 419 participations and 300 matches. He presented 4.15 ERA / 3.93 SIERA with strikeout and walking rates above the average of 23.3 percent and 10.5 percent, respectively, more than 1,813 2/3 innings. Liriano will presumably compete for a role in the Toronto bullpen this spring.
