Blue Jackets, Jets make big deal involving Pierre-Luc Dubois and Patrik Laine

The Columbus Blue Jackets and Winnipeg Jets showed on Saturday that the NHL can also have highly successful businesses in the middle of the season.

Columbus left Pierre-Luc Dubois with Winnipeg for Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic. The Jets also acquired a draft choice for the 2022 third round in the deal.

Dubois was rumored to be in the commercial block for weeks after Columbus coach John Tortorella told reporters the attacker wanted to leave. The 22-year-old has played five games for the Blue Jackets this season and scored a goal.

He led the team with 49 points and 31 assists during the short 2019-20 season. He scored four goals and six assists in 10 games of the Stanley Cup playoff for Columbus last year.

Laine, 22, was recently placed on the reserve list of injured people with an upper body injury. He only played one game for the Jets this season.

Last year, Laine scored 28 goals and 35 points for Winnipeg. He played in 68 games. He played in all Winnipeg games in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.

Columbus also acquired Roslovic, a former Jets pick in the first round. The center has yet to play this season. In 2019-20, he scored 12 goals and 17 assists in 71 games.

“Strengthening our team offensively has been a priority for us and the additions of Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic accomplish just that,” said Columbus general manager Jarmo Kekalaninen in a statement. “Patrik is a player we know very well and in a short time he has become one of the most competent scorers in our league. Jack is a young and exciting player with great potential and we are excited to bring him home in Columbus like a blue jacket. “

Columbus is 1-2-2 this season. Winnipeg is 3-1-0.
