Carolina Hurricanes acquired a 2022 pick of the seventh round.
Pronman: Potential fans will remember Hofmann appearing periodically for the past 10 years, such as when he had a decent junior world championship in 2012 or strong appearances at world championships in recent years. Now 28, Hofmann is considered a solid NHL prospect by NHL scouts after having excelled in the Swiss league.
After being chosen by the Hurricanes in the fourth round in 2011, his rights remained with Carolina all this time because Switzerland, like Russia, has no transfer agreement with the NHL. League sources believe that hurricanes and Hofmann have failed to reach an agreement in recent years, so he stayed in Switzerland; the reasons for this are unknown.
