The Columbus Blue Jackets and Winnipeg Jets have completed an exchange where each team receives a disgruntled star from the other. Patrik Laine is going to Columbus, while Pierre-Luc Dubois is going to Winnipeg.
Dubois told Blue Jackets management that he wanted to be negotiated while negotiating his recent $ 10 million contract extension for two years before the training camp. The board did not feel compelled to immediately honor their request until recently, when coach John Tortorella decided to place third in the 2016 draft in the first period of Thursday’s game.
Laine, for his part, had his agent reveal to TSN that it would be “mutually beneficial” for the 22-year-old Winnipeg franchise to split up in this off-season. He appeared in just one game for the Jets this year because of an upper body injury and is currently sitting on the reserve due to injury.
Dubois has been an absolute stallion for the past few seasons, with his best year taking place in the 2018-19 season, where he has accumulated 27 goals and 34 assists. The following year, he scored 18 goals and 31 assists, but also scored a point-per-game performance in the postseason with four goals and six assists in 10 games. Laine was an All Star in 2017 in a season in which he scored 44 goals and 70 points.
Also part of the deal is striker Jack Roslovic, a native of Columbus, who is returning to his hometown. Columbus is also giving Winnipeg his choice for the third round of 2022.
