Lance McDonald, also known as ManFightsDragon, also known for his data mining games like PT, Bloodborne and the Dark / Demon Souls series for hacked or hidden content, has officially launched his 60 frames per second mod for Bloodborne.
McDonald previously announced that he had created a 60 FPS mod in October 2020, but was waiting for Sony to clarify whether it had future plans for the Bloodborne.
The patch allows players to change version 1.09 of Bloodborne (the latest update) and modify the game engine to increase the frame rate limit to 60 FPS and optionally lower the resolution to 1280×720.
In a previous video demonstrating the 60 FPS mod (which you absolutely must watch), McDonald shared that accessing Bloodborne’s debug mode and changing the frame rate only served to speed up everything in the game to twice the speed, creating a Benny effect Comical Hill. The PS4 Pro offered some older games a boost mode that improved the frame rate and other performance metrics, but Bloodborne appeared to be stuck behind what McDonald calls an “arbitrary” frame rate of 30 FPS, something that Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro were not restricted in Pro. IGN contacted McDonald to clarify how well this patch can work on a basic PS4, if it works.
You can find McDonald’s mod and instructions on your Patreon, but make sure you know what you’re doing. Changing your PS4 console in such a way will almost certainly void any warranty you have in case something goes wrong. You will have to modify it to run the homebrew software in the first place.
McDonald is a veteran when it comes to beloved modding and data mining games. He was originally the one who discovered that PT’s ghost is programmed to always be after the player, that the ghost really walks around while you’re locked in the bathroom, and managed to explore the scary city of Silent Hill seen in the final scene with Norman Reedus.
Don’t get your hopes up for an official 60 FPS patch from FromSoftware or Sony anytime soon, as none of the companies mentioned any intention to revisit the game’s code. Considering that Demon’s Souls remake looks amazing at 60 FPS, we can still only hope that they find it appropriate to do so.
