Blake Shelton faces reaction against new song ‘Minimum Wage’

Blake Shelton is facing a negative reaction for debuting a song entitled “Minimum Wage”, while people in America continue to struggle amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The “The Voice” coach debuted the new single on the NBC New Year’s Eve TV special alongside Carson Daly to help play in 2021. The country singer told the presenter that his fiancee, Gwen Stefani, helped make his brother, Todd, direct the video.

The artist’s new song has to do with his love for the 51-year-old “Hollaback Girl” and contains a lyrics in the chorus that irritated many people who saw the broadcast.

“Girl, your love can make a man feel rich on a minimum wage.”

Given the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has caused many companies to shut down and put countless Americans out of work, people quickly accessed Twitter to criticize the singer for releasing a song they believed to be “deaf” due to the current climate.

“The irony of hearing a millionaire Blake Shelton singing about ‘minimum wage love’ in late 2020 may be lost on his target audience,” a user wrote.

“I love his music, but the time for the Minimum Wage is not a good one. With so many people unemployed and struggling, the music seems a little deaf. I would like to hear more personal music. I would like him to write more of his own stuff, because he is an amazing composer ”, another wrote in a tweet that was not available on Sunday.

Someone agreed, writing: “Does anyone else think Blake Shelton’s song” Minimum Wage “is incredibly deaf to the current state of our country?”

“Please apologize to everyone for your song ‘minimum wage’. From what I read, you p —- many people hung up during a time when we needed songs of hope and charity, no more crap about how much you and Gwen are in love. What an insult to us all. Boooooo, ” a more direct user added.

“What !? @blakeshelton is really #MinimumWage really? Yes, of course @gwenstefani can make a guy with a minimum wage feel rich because he is a millionaire. Are you working at Home Depot now or something? Do you want to pay my rent? ” someone else concluded.

The song has not yet been fully released and Shelton has not yet publicly commented on the reaction on social media.

As of Thursday morning, the new coronavirus infected more than 82,791,115 people in 191 countries and territories, resulting in at least 1,806,478 deaths. In the United States, all 50 states plus the District of Columbia reported confirmed cases of COVID-19, totaling more than 19,744,737 diseases and at least 350,000 deaths.
