Blake Shelton defended his recent song “Minimum Wage” after receiving criticism for some of his lyrics.
Some people online call the song “deaf to the tone”, as Shelton sings about living on a minimum wage when he’s been away from it for years.
“I feel that, currently, there are people out there who don’t want to know the truth,” country star, 44, told CMT. “They just want to hear what they want to hear and start a fight.”
“No matter what their intention is, no matter what the truth is, they want it to be something they can be upset about so they can get on social media and try to make a headline,” he added.

The “Voice” coach called “Minimum Wage” a “love song” and described how you are supposed to talk when times are tough “as long as you have love and are happy – at the end of the day, that’s all we can do really wait. “
He said that love is “all that matters” and “if that is offensive to you, then we will have to agree to disagree”.

Instead, Shelton attributed the criticism to “only four or five people who probably don’t know anything about country music”.
Shelton sang the song during NBC’s televised New Year’s Eve event. “Girl, your love can make a man feel rich on a minimum wage,” he sang.

“The irony of hearing a millionaire Blake Shelton singing about ‘love with a minimum wage’ in late 2020 may get lost in his target audience,” a user wrote.
“I love his music, but the time for the Minimum Wage is not a good one. With so many people out of work and struggling, the music seems a little deaf. I would like to hear songs that are more personal. I would like him to write more of his own things because he is an amazing composer, ” another said.
Someone agreed, writing: “Does anyone else think Blake Shelton’s song ‘Minimum Wage’ is incredibly deaf to the current state of our country?”

Shelton said his fiancee, Gwen Stefani, helped her brother, Todd, direct his video.
The artist’s new song has to do with his love for 51-year-old singer “Hollaback Girl” and contains a lyrics in the chorus that irritated many people who saw the broadcast.
