Kelly Clarkson has an edge on “The Voice”.

Not only has she won the NBC singing competition three times as a trainer, but Clarkson has a unique view from a competitor’s point of view as the inaugural winner of Fox’s “American Idol” in 2002, host presenter Carson Daly said Tuesday. during the fourth night of auditions for the blind.

“She won a show like this,” Daly told Blake Shelton, Nick Jonas and John Legend. “She probably knows more about it than any of you.”

Shelton, who served as “Voice” coach for a decade, was not impressed because he said “that show has been canceled”. (“American Idol” was revived by ABC in 2018.) The country singer jokingly added that Clarkson “cannot complete his team” and is a “terrible coach”.

Some competitors, however, felt differently.

Clarkson managed to attract 17-year-old contestant Gihanna Zoe, who won two laps in the chair with her interpretation of “She Used to Be Mine” by Sara Bareilles, away from Jonas with her robust resume.

“I have obviously participated in a singing competition before too, so I think there is a strategy for that,” said Clarkson. “I think we would fit in well. That’s why I turned around. I was really impressed with you.”

And it worked. Zoe joined the Clarkson team.

But his selling point started to lose its effectiveness.

Deion Warren won three laps on the Clarkson, Jonas and Legend chair for his powerful performance in Lady Gaga’s “Shallow”.

“Choose, I don’t know, someone who won a vocal competition,” said Clarkson. Jonas interrupted: “Or (choose) someone who hasn’t (won) and has a lot to prove.”

Warren chose Jonas as his coach.

Although there is no love lost between the coaches, they have remained loyal to their network.

When competitor JD Casper pointed out that his music for a blind audition, “How to Save a Life” by The Fray, was featured on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” program, the coaches had an interesting reaction.

“I didn’t watch that show. I mean, sorry ‘Grey’s Anatomy’,” said Clarkson. The caption added: “It was on another network. We didn’t watch that network.” Sorry, Shonda Rhimes.

Blind hearings are resumed on “The Voice” Monday on NBC.
