Blake Griffin to make Brooklyn Nets debut, with minute restriction

Blake Griffin will make his Brooklyn Nets debut on Sunday against the Washington Wizards. Griffin said he will have a minute restriction.

Griffin last played on February 12 against the Boston Celtics, when he was still a member of the Detroit Pistons. After agreeing to purchase Detroit and signing with Brooklyn, Griffin met with the Nets training team and devised a return to game plan that would get him back in shape.

“Nobody stays for a month and then comes back and plays immediately,” Griffin told ESPN. “So, I just want to be smart and listen to people who know what they’re talking about and make sure to give me the best opportunity to get in and contribute and be healthy for the playoffs and beyond.”

While he was listed as out for maintenance on his left knee injury, Griffin was adamant that he never got hurt. On Sunday morning, Griffin said the Nets’ training team took a full-body approach to their increased workload and did not just focus on the knee.

Griffin traveled with the Nets on his last trip to Indiana and trained with the training team of Nets and Kevin Durant, who missed the Nets’ last 13 games due to a hamstring strain. Brooklyn has played a total of four games without Griffin since he signed with the franchise.

Griffin, 32, has played 20 games for Detroit this season and averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists.
