Blackmagic reveals the “most powerful” Pocket Cinema 6K Pro camera

Blackmagic Design has announced the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, what it calls a more powerful enhanced version of the popular video camera that has a brighter HDR touch screen, built-in ND filters, a larger battery and more.

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K features an SLR design, and the Pro model continues that aesthetic. It has a handle with control layout similar to static cameras without a mirror, with easy access to settings such as ISO, white balance, shutter angle and recording. Although that hasn’t changed, the sensor also looks the same and the experience around it has changed.

The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro features the same Super 35 sensor of 6144 × 3456 pixels and EF lens mount found on the original Cinema Camera 6K, but Pro adds 2, 4 and 6-point motorized ND filters and Full HD adjustable tilt ( 1920 × 1080 pixels) HDR LCD with 1,500 nit peak brightness and two mini XLR audio inputs along with a larger Sony NP-F570 battery.

Like a note on the screen, it now tilts for easy viewing from above. On-screen overlays show status and record parameters, histogram, peak focus indicators, levels, frame guides and more.

As with the original 6K camera, the Pro records using standard open file formats. It supports industry-standard 10-bit Apple ProRes files in all formats up to 4K or 12-bit Blackmagic RAW in all formats up to 6K.

The Pro model also uses the same “generation 5” color science as the next generation URSA Mini Pro 12K and will give you access to a new 12-bit dynamic gamma curve designed to capture more color data in highlights and shadows.

“Color science also deals with some of the complex Blackmagic RAW imaging processes, so that the sensor’s color and dynamic range data is preserved through metadata that customers can use in post-production,” writes Blackmagic.

The last major update of the Pro model is the addition of an optional display that connects to the shoe assembly. Blackmagic will sell a 1280 × 960 color OLED screen with a proximity sensor integrated with a 4-element glass diopter that also supports a 70 degree swivel range. It also comes with four different types of eyepieces for the left and right eyes. The display is available for $ 495.

Blackmagic launched the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro as part of its ATEM Mini live stream and Camera Update:

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is now available for $ 2,495.
