Black PS2 consoles inspired by PS2 will go on sale this week

If you want to beat money changers and bots, you can order a retro PlayStation 5 inspired by PlayStation 2 from 3pm EST on Friday, January 8th.

Produced in the USA, the SUP3R5 console will be limited to 304 units – a number that in turn is inspired by the original PS2 release date of 4/4/00. The starting price is $ 649. SUP3R5 is also selling DualSense controllers separately for $ 99 each, and they will be limited to 500 units. Both products will begin shipping in late spring this year.

A DualSense disclaimer notifies potential buyers that their “retro-inspired conversion process requires a complete disassembly” of the device. This means that there will be no guarantees, so if your controller fails, you will have less than $ 99 and nothing to replace it. The good news is that the console itself will not be taken apart – only its side panels will be removed during the renovation, which does not void the warranty.

“The SUP3R5 team carefully applies the retro design inspired by each unit by hand, a tedious process that is executed with the utmost attention to detail and quality,” says an official description. “The whole process is carried out with gloves and with the necessary safety precautions, leaving your console, controller and accessories untouched by human hands.”

Considering that a significant proportion of the PlayStation community has not yet secured the standard white PS5 that was officially released last November, being able to buy this seems like an unrealistic dream. But it’s worth a try, I think.
