Black Myth: Wukong still has beautiful rat battles in its second trailer

It’s wonderful when a single video of a game that nobody has heard of, of a company that nobody has heard of, makes the internet pay attention at once. It happened with Black Myth: Wukong last year. It is a reinterpretation of the Chinese fantasy epic Journey To The West, and seems to feature many beautiful and dramatic fights in which you, a monkey, defeat anthropomorphic mice.

Now there is a new trailer to prove it.

I’m not a Soul player or anything, so I’m purely for art direction. Large towers with tentacles surrounded by swarms of crows; amazing shrines filled with carved wooden statues; rats in their underwear. It also looks like a technological marvel, with almost no grass blade or top knot on the head of a mouse that is not swaying in the wind.

Also, what is this thing with the eyes.

Ah, a nightmare.

The rest of the trailer shows an elegant combat between the protagonist and a two-headed mouse, and is the kind of third-person, dodging / blocking / stabbing fight that I expected you to imagine from the mention “Souls” in the first paragraph.

Black Myth: Wukong currently has no release date, and its official website appears to be in Chinese only. You can read about Ed’s love for the game’s rats or watch last year’s 13-minute game video below:
