We also see the player’s character (who may or may not be the real Wukong of Chinese folk tales) using a set of new spells to fight them: turning into a walking rock full of skulls to dodge ranged attacks, freezing one enemy in place and taking them down (a little reminiscent of Breath of the Wild’s Stasis ability), parrying against multiple enemies and transforming into three lightning creatures for an air attack.
A caption makes it clear that “This video was produced especially to commemorate the Year of the Ox, it does not represent the real plot.” However, it seems unlikely that any of the above elements were designed simply for the trailer, meaning that they will likely be implemented in the final game in different ways.
This marks Black Myth’s first new gameplay since the 13-minute announcement video, which enjoyed incredible popularity across the Internet last year. In September, Game Science told IGN that it planned to be silent “for a long time” to work on the game – this launch seems to be just to celebrate Chinese New Year with fans, rather than signaling that we will be learning a lot more about the game.
