Black Ink Festival should be online this week

Team reports | Black Ink: An African American Book Festival in Charleston will feature author Kwame Mbalia as the keynote speaker during the three-day online event that amplifies the voices of black authors.

Mbalia told the Charleston City Journal he has the honor of being involved in the festival, where his main speech will be entitled: “Be a Sapper, Not a Guardian”.

“I absolutely love the Black Ink premise,” he said. “Talking about black authors, black books, writing about black culture – this festival is exactly what I needed to start 2021.”

Other speakers in the 5th year of the festival include Charleston laureate poet Marcus Amaker, Southern Review of Books general editor Shani Raine Gilchrist, and owner of Turning Page Bookshop VaLinda Miller.
