BioWare talking to Mass Effect modders about Legendary Edition

BioWare is currently refining its sci-fi RPG trilogy for the legendary edition of Mass Effect, but what will the remastered mean to existing mods? Although the future is not clear, BioWare has at least said that it is in contact with some modders and has some kind of plan for … something. They are not revealing much yet, saying they plan to talk more about it later. Fingers crossed for some modding goodness?

Legendary Edition project director Mac Walters addressed the issue on Twitter:

This response was prompted by a conversation involving “Orikon”, a modder whose projects included revising Mass Effect 3’s final mission and restoring ambient sound effects. Orikon said the Mass Effect news for the week did not change his plans, and they would still finish their current projects – although they did not know if it would be technically possible to transport them to the Legendary Edition.

The mods for the trilogy include new searches, adjustments to old searches, new and expanded novels, new textures and, inevitably, some sexy clothes that are profoundly not sexy. I never touched the Mass Effect mods, despite finishing the trilogy several times, I think because I want a consistent tone and style in a series focused on a story. Would you recommend that I try, guys?

Fingers crossed so that all this hard work can be carried over to remasters. It seems that BioWare is planning some kind of mod support, at least.

The Legendary Edition remasters the Mass Effect trilogy with models, textures, more sophisticated effects and so on. You can see some comparisons on the game’s website. The first game is getting more sustainable changes than the others, including adjustments to the aim and direction. Almost all of the DLC is included as well – except Pinnacle Station, because the source has been corrupted. Unfortunately, the ME3 multiplayer has been cut.

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition will arrive on Steam and Origin on May 14, BioWare announced this week, priced at £ 55 / € 60 / $ 60. They are offering a small discount on Steam if you own ME3 there, although that not very useful, considering it was exclusive to Origin during its first eight years.
