Bindi Irwin and her husband, Chandler Powell, welcomed their first child, the wildlife expert announced on Instagram on Friday. Irwin revealed his daughter’s name, saying that the middle name honors his later father, Steve Irwin.
“March 25, 2021. Celebrating the two loves of my life. Happy first wedding anniversary for my dear husband and birth day for our beautiful daughter,” wrote the 22-year-old on Instagram, sharing a photo with her husband and newborn .
“Grace Warrior Irwin Powell,” she continued. “Our graceful warrior is the most beautiful light.” Irwin explained that Grace was the name of her great-grandmother, as well as the name of her husband’s relatives, which dates back to 1700. “Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my father and his legacy as the most incredible warrior in wildlife, “Irwin posted.
Steve Irwin, an Australian television personality and conservationist known as the “Crocodile Hunter”, was killed in 2006 by a stingray while filming the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44 years old.
His wife, Terri, and children, Bindi and Robert, carried his legacy running the Australia Zoo.
Bindi Irwin and her family also help manage the zoo’s non-profit organization, Wildlife Warriors, which the late Irwin founded in 2002. When she announced she was pregnant last August, Irwin called her baby a “wildlife warrior”.
It also recently announced a new “Baby Wildlife Warrior” clothing line ahead of its expiration date, the proceeds of which will help support Wildlife Warriors Worldwide’s conservation efforts.
In a post on her own Instagram account, Irwin’s husband wrote a message to his newborn daughter. “You have a great life ahead of you and no matter what, you will be surrounded by a lot of love,” he wrote. “Thank you for bestowing your beautiful mother and me on our wedding anniversary, so happy to have you home.”
