Bindi Irwin and her husband Chandler Powell took a moment to reflect on 2020.
Young conservationists revealed on Wednesday that they faced professional difficulties while living personal milestones.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Irwin recalled the challenges his team faced when forest fires devastated parts of Australia last January.

“For us, this year was filled with tremendous joy and a painful loss. Our Wildlife Hospital was the busiest that has ever existed due to the Australian forest fires that have ravaged the country,” Irwin told his 469,000 followers. “We work hard to send support to the frontlines of destruction. We have treated more than 100,000 patients since the opening of Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.”

She also acknowledged that the coronavirus pandemic added another layer of concern to her family’s zoo, which should have celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 3, but had to be closed.

The Australia Zoo was closed to the public for 78 days due to the health crisis, which represented a disaster for the zoo’s high cost of animal care.
“Our feed bills alone are about $ 80,000 a week and we spend our days trying to keep our staff and family of animals safe,” Irwin shared. “At each moment of each day, the question of when or whether we would recover was etched in our minds.”

However, at the same time, there were some positive aspects that happened in 2020.
Irwin, 22, married Powell, 24, on March 25. The couple married in a private and socially distant ceremony at the Australia Zoo.

“Now, we are patiently waiting for our beautiful daughter to arrive. She is the light of our lives, ”Irwin wrote to his fans. “I hope this next year will bring some peace and we will find a way to come together as a society. Please remember to be kind to each other and find happiness in even the smallest things.”
Irwin is about 27 weeks pregnant on Sunday.
The other half of her on wakeboard shared her excitement about the milestone of her life in a post on Instagram.

“2020 was filled with the highest of the highs and the lowest of the low. As easy as it is to look at this year’s difficulties, I am choosing to revel in the highlights, ”wrote Powell. “I married my best friend and our daughter will be joining us in a few months. Starting 2021 as a husband and father is incredible and I am ready for absolutely everything the year has in store for us.”
