Bill’s Mitch Trubisky left money on the table to join the free agency team

Mitchell Trubisky was ready for a restart, even if it meant leaving money on the table.

Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane joined SiriusXM NFL Radio on Thursday, just hours after it was announced that Trubisky, the former No. 2 general pick in the NFL’s 2017 Draft, would join the team for a year. During his conversation on the show, Beane noted that Buffalo could not match some of the offers that were there for the quarterback. If he wanted to join Bills, it would have to be for a lower price.

“We couldn’t win the battle financially,” said Beane. “There were a lot of teams that were definitely behind Mitchell and for good reason he was selected. And listen, he’s 29-21 as a 50-game starter, so he was successful. “

Money usually talks in the NFL, but Buffalo failed to win over Trubisky on a high salary. Instead, they had to convince Trubisky about why Buffalo made sense to him.

Beane told SiriusXM NFL Radio: “What we sold to him and his agent was: ‘Come here for a reboot. Work with Josh Allen and our other quarterbacks, Jake Fromm (e) Davis Webb, (offensive coordinator) Brian Daboll and (quarterback coach) Ken Dorsey. Come here, have a year of redefinition and be part of what we are doing here. Be the best version of yourself and the future will take care of itself. ‘”

Beane’s proposal certainly worked for Trubisky by signing a $ 2.5 million one-year contract. Considering what some backups are hiring across the league, Trubisky believed in Buffalo’s culture and what a year with the team could do for him in the long run.
