Billie Eilish Vanity Fair interview recap

“You have to remember that it is just life. Nothing more.”

Yesterday, Billie Eilish gave a super revealing interview to Vanity Fair, where she basically answered increasingly personal questions as the camera zoomed in.

Now it was a super interesting interview where she talked about fame, identity, family and work – but also, I was so impressed with how mature Billie is and how much incredible advice she gave.

Here are 19 things Billie talked about in his most recent interview!

1

One of the things Billie is most excited to do now that she is an adult is to go shopping at Costco and Home Depot.

This is honestly well identifiable in a pandemic, lol.

She also shared some fun facts, like her favorite movies and Beatles songs.

His favorite Beatles songs are “Something”, “Julia”, “You Never Give Me Your Money”, “Anna (Go To Him)” and “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”. She is currently obsessed with Kate Farms’ Chocolate Shake. The song she hears when she wants to feel free is “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore” by Phantogram or “Tear You Apart” by She Wants Revenge. As for the films that changed or deeply affected her, Billie cited The Babadook, Fruitvale Station, we need to talk about Kevinand Skirt.

Billie says that if she were not a musical artist, she would be a backup dancer or work somewhere like Jamba Juice or Trader Joes.

You know, if I didn’t write for BuzzFeed, I think I would like to work at Trader Joe’s.

She also talked about more serious things, including fake news and people’s willingness to believe everything they read …

Although Billie said that she also loves the internet a lot.

… and the environment. When asked how she expects the world to be when she is 80, she emphasized the fact that we may not have that time if we do not fix the environment.

She laughed and said that we only have 10 more years, so she got serious and emphasized the need to act.

6

Although she then said that if she lives to be 80, she expects people to be kinder and also know when their words are not needed.

I think Billie speaks for all of us here.

7

In response to one of the more personal questions, Billie mentioned that she felt trapped in an emotionally abusive relationship, appearing visibly reluctant to share and sending out signs of peace after saying so.

8

Billie also opened up about the difficult parts of fame, stating that she has no privacy and highlighting how vulnerable she felt to winning five Grammys in 2020.

“I had just had an incredible experience and was filled with joy, excitement, shock and disbelief,” said Billie, talking about the compliments she received. “And at the same time, the whole internet was telling me that I didn’t deserve this, so it was a strange week.”

9

Although she recognizes the good parts of fame, saying that the best part is being able to speak and be heard.

“Having a voice and a platform is incredible and rare,” he said.

10

Billie talked a lot about her family, saying that her worst fear is that something will happen to their health. She also talked about connecting with them through weekly dinners, movies and “making fun of people”.

11

She also talked about growing up in a creative family that allowed her room to grow, saying that her parents had a rule that as long as she or Finneas were working on something creative, they could stay up late as long as they wanted.

12

She also talked about Finneas, her brother and longtime collaborator, in more detail, saying that Finneas influences her all the time.

“I mean, I wanted to do everything he did while growing up,” she said. “I think it’s like that when you’re a little brother, up to a certain age.”

13

Although she acknowledged the difficult times in her family, saying that it is clear that there are times when they do not agree, but it happens in all relationships.

“You have days, weeks or months when things are going wrong, you know, they’re just not the same as they normally would be, and then you have days when things are just amazing,” said Billie.

14

Her mother was really there to hear Billie’s words about her family – although she was not very happy when Billie said she likes to drive at 120 mph on the highway when she needs to find peace.

That would also be my mother.

15

Billie was overjoyed when the interviewer asked about the newest addition to Billie’s family: a recently adopted pit bull named Shark.

16

But one of my favorite parts of the interview came when Billie talked about the advice she would give to someone who wants to be her:

“We are better off as ourselves,” concluded Billie.

Finally, Billie talked about her next job, including her influences …

… and how much she grew up as an artist.

She said that her creative process is now very different than during When we all fall asleep, where do we go, saying that her team has grown in the way they create and talking about how proud they are of what they are creating: “I have written much more and honestly better than ever. I feel like a different person.”

19

Billie ended the interview by talking about what she remembers to herself when she feels intense pressure and, honestly, it is solid advice.

“It’s not really that deep,” said Billie. “You must be nice to people … and you must take care of the planet and take care of people and … fight for your rights and fight for others, but you have to remember that it’s just life.”
