Real Time presenter Bill Maher ended his program on Friday night, warning of China’s growing dominance over the United States.
“You are not going to win the battle of the 21st century if you are a foolish people. And Americans are a foolish people, ”Maher began the monologue, alluding to a quote from“ Lawrence of Arabia ”.
“Do you know who doesn’t care that there is a stereotype of a Chinese man in a book by Dr. Seuss? China,” he said. “All of the 1.4 billion of them would not give a damn about a crouching tiger to fly f — because they are not a foolish people. At most, they are as serious as a prison fight.”

Maher acknowledged that China does “bad things”, from the concentration camps of Uighur Muslims to the treatment it gives Hong Kong.
But he emphasized, “There must be something between an authoritarian government that tells everyone what to do and a representative government that can do nothing.”

“In two generations, China has built 500 entire cities from scratch, transferred the majority of its huge population from poverty to the middle class and, above all, monopolized the market for 5G and pharmaceuticals. Oh, and they bought Africa,” he said. Maher, pointing to the China Silk Road global infrastructure initiative.
He continued: “In China alone, they have 40,000 kilometers of high-speed rail. America has none. … We have held Infrastructure Week every week since 2009, but we never do anything. We are a foolish people.

The HBO star cited how it took “ten years” for a San Francisco bus line to pass its environmental review and how it took “16 years” to build the Big Dig tunnel in Boston, comparing it to a 57-story skyscraper that China built in “19 days” and the Sanyuan Bridge in Beijing, which was demolished and rebuilt in “43 hours”.

Maher then criticized New York City’s Democratic mayor Bill de Blasio, accusing him of degrading school standards by eliminating merit and replacing a school lottery system for advanced students.
