Bill Gates’ preference for Android over iOS comes down to pre-installed software

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates was summoned to his first meeting at the Clubhouse, the popular invitation-only chat app. Bill was asked about a series of questions related to the environment as well as technology. Previously, we saw Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk sharing ideas about Bitcoin and several other topics. Journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin and Bill Gates also addressed the issue that compares Android to iOS.

As the Clubhouse’s popularity continues to grow, the app is only available for the iPhone. The company may make it available on Android in the near future, but as of now, it is only available on the App Store. As Bill Gates was using an iPhone, the question naturally fell on whether the Microsoft co-founder prefers iOS over Android. Gates has publicly stated that he prefers Android over iOS due to some preinstalled software that works best with the operating system.

“I actually use an Android phone,” said Gates. “Since I want to keep track of everything, I usually play with iPhones, but the one I carry with me is Android.”

“So, Android vs. Apple – is that a religious thing?” asked Sorkin.

“Some of the Android manufacturers pre-install Microsoft software in a way that makes it easy for me,” replied Gates. “They are more flexible about how the software connects to the operating system. So this is what I got used to. You know, a lot of my friends have ‌iPhone‌, so there is no purity.”

Following Gates’ response, Clubhouse co-founder Paul Davison, who was also in the room for a short time, said that an Android version of the app is the “main feature” the company is working on. During the meeting, Bill Gates stated that he had a difficult relationship with Steve Jobs, but also coined that he was “unique”. Bill Gates also discussed several other topics around the global health crises, climate change and more. You can also check out the full interview on YouTube.
