Bill Gates explains why he still prefers Android to iPhone during an interview at the Clubhouse

During a recent interview on the Clubhouse invite-only audio chat app, Bill Gates revealed why he still prefers to use an Android phone over the iPhone. The bottom line, Gates explained, is that Android makers are “more flexible” with software integration.

As our colleagues at 9to5Google reported, Gates joined Andrew Ross Sorkin for an interview on the Clubhouse app this week. The Clubhouse, which is rapidly gaining popularity, is currently an exclusive iPhone app, but an Android version is on the way.

Gates talked about his use of Android in the past, so Sorkin was curious to see if his preference could have changed, since he was speaking via a service that is only available on iOS.

In response, the Microsoft founder explained that he still prefers an Android, but that he keeps an iPhone to try – and, apparently, to join the Clubhouse rooms. Gates’ reasoning for using Android is because manufacturers often pre-install Microsoft software:

In fact, I use an Android phone. As I want to follow everything, I usually play with iPhones, but the one I carry with me is Android. Some Android manufacturers pre-install Microsoft software in a way that makes it easier for me. They are more flexible about how the software connects to the operating system. So that’s what I got used to. You know, a lot of my friends have ‌iPhone não, so there is no purity.

The reasoning here is a little strange because you can download Microsoft apps from the App Store on the iPhone and so far adjust your default browser and email apps with iOS 14, so it’s not clear what Gates is referring to.
