Bill Belichick threw a side phone in frustration during the Bills-Patriots

At a time that Patriots fans can see as representative of the team’s disappointing 2020 season, Bill Belichick responded to the challenge of a poorly chosen coach during Monday night’s game with the Bills by throwing a side phone.

Belichick chose to use one of his challenges during the AFC East showdown after Bills’ tight end, Dawson Knox, took a 15-yard side pass on the first scrimmage move in the third quarter.

The longtime Patriots coach was located next to where Knox made the reception and quickly threw the red flag to signal a challenge.

Still, after review, it ended up being a pretty straightforward decision for the referee: Knox caught the ball with both feet on the court.

After the relatively quick review (which confirmed the capture of the Bills), Belichick was seen backstage talking to Patriots people over the phone. He then threw the phone in frustration before leaving.

“Whoever suggested to coach Belichick that he might want to challenge that was heard,” noted ESPN Monday Night Football game-by-game commentator Steve Levy.

Things only got worse for Belichick when Bills ended the trip with an 18-yard touchdown for Stefon Diggs.
