Jets coach Adam Gase does not have many fans in his own backyard, but he received a positive assessment from one of his colleagues on Wednesday.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was asked about Jets quarterback Sam Darnold during his press conference on Wednesday. Belichick praised the third year holder, as well as the way he is prepared to play.

“I don’t think there is a lack of talent or skill in the game. . . . He’s an athletic guy, big in size, big arm, hard to hold in his pocket, good perspective and is being well trained. . . . I don’t think he could get better coaching than where he is, “said Belichick, via Ben Volin’s Boston Globe.

Gase is 9-22 in two seasons as the Jets’ head coach on Sunday’s game against the Patriots. It is widely expected to be his last game with the Jets, but the Patriots need a quarterback coach with Jedd Fisch for the University of Arizona and Gase was on the team of Patriots’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels with the Broncos.

If nothing materializes on that front, Belichick’s words may help Gase in an offer for a job elsewhere.
