Patriots coach Bill Belichick confirmed something at his press conference on Friday that many people probably took for granted.
Wide receiver Julian Edelman will not return to the team’s game in Week 17 against the Jets. He has been on the knee injury reserve since early November and was assigned to return a few weeks ago, but Belichick said the retired veteran would not be activated.
Belichick also said that Edelman, who had 21 receptions in 315 yards, has not suffered a setback.
“I wouldn’t say that, no. I would say that he was not ready to play and will not be ready to play, ”Said Belichick, through WEEI’s Ryan Hannable.
Edelman signed on for next season, but Belichick said it is too early to say whether he will be back with the Patriots for a 13th season.
