Big Bear Alexander said exactly what he was looking for in relation to his future university decision.
“Whoever can develop their players and compete and simply win on the pitch,” Alexander told DawgNation in November. “Just get the best out of their guys on and off the field and who cares about you in your life after football too.”
Rivals.com’s second DT and fifth overall place apparently found what they were looking for in Georgia. The 1.80 m tall, 315 pound junior decided to commit to college on the National Signing Day of the 2021 class.
He shared that decision on his social media accounts.
I would like to thank God, my family and all the coaches. For all the things he has blessed me with. I am grateful for the many schools that recruited me throughout this process. I am 100% committed to the University of Georgia @maka_difference # GoDawgs # 🔴⚪️⚫️🐶🐶🐶 pic.twitter.com/dnf6LnYaxD

The impressive Texas potential customer was ready to start his process. Alexander had just been named one of the top 16 in December and always thought it would be a last minute commitment decision. He was thinking of a 2022 All-American Game to drop that news and then enroll in the middle of the year at his favorite school.
That has all changed.
“With the window being so short, literally 11 months [I] I just decided to close it early and find a home, ”Alexander told DawgNation this week.

Georgia has managed to overcome the intense recruitment of companies like Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M for their services, among others.
Alexander becomes the second elite DT candidate in the 2022 class in Georgia. His decision brings the count of appointments in that cycle to eight for Bulldogs. He is the first out-of-class candidate.
With this decision, Bulldogs rose from No. 3 to No. 2 in the national recruitment ranking 247Sports Team Composite for 2022. Georgia’s score with its eight commitments (181.61) is now behind Ohio State only. The Buckeyes have a trio of 5-star recruits among their 10 candidates and a score of 225.91.
“Big Bear” ranks as the nation’s 9th DT and No. 140 in the general recruitment for 2022 in the 247Sports Composite, but that spot is likely to see a significant increase in rank following the assessment of Alexander’s dominating junior year for Class 5A state champion of Texas Ryan Alto.

The first time Big Bear Alexander impressed Georgia
The reputation of Georgia’s football program has always stood out for Alexander. In November, he was asked what he liked most about UGA.
He said a lot of positive things about Dan Lanning, Tray Scott and Kirby Smart. However, his strongest comments focused on the program as a whole.
“The defense,” he said in November. “The consistency of going there every week and going after it and getting better. You can tell how well trained they are in the field, improving each week. “
Big Bear Alexander drove from Texas to Georgia for his first visit to campus. That was in the summer of 2019. While he was working out, he was quickly upgraded to the D-line group with the biggest prospects for 2020 that Georgia was evaluating for that class.
Alexandre had one of the best performances at that camp. This is expected of a young man who already weighed 130 kilos and shaved when he was in high school.
The fact that he was presenting himself as a 2022 prospectus mixed with other high-level targets for 2020 and 2021 was not the most impressive thing there.
That’s what Google Maps tells us. It is an approximately 920 mile, 13 hour drive from Ryan High School in Denton Texas to the Butts-Mehre building on the UGA campus.
Alexander was not sure how long this journey actually took. All he knows is that he got out of the car and started working out for the Bulldogs.
“I don’t remember the camp, but I actually went to Georgia and worked out for those guys on the team,” said Alexander. “They saw what I could do and were impressed. How many hours did we have to drive? I do not know. What is Texas of Georgia? Maybe six hours, maybe? We drove from Texas to Georgia. “
Go ahead and insert your favorite “Does a bear stretch in the forest before chasing its prey?” thought bubble in your consumption of this story here.
“After sitting in the car for so long, they were impressed with me going out and working my ass off,” said Alexander. “They said that I was one of the hardest workers in the field. Georgia says that for me this has always been something to remember for them. “

What are Bulldogs getting from Big Bear Alexander?
He did not have a dream school while growing up. It wasn’t like one of those Texas schools had a clear advantage built in here.
When he returned to the field last November, after waiting for his eligibility after a transfer case, he showed what it was.
“It was great to go back there and have that fire burning under me,” he said at the time. “I will be ready to go there and sink. I don’t care if it’s a move. It will be a piece to remember. “
Many people in the recruitment industry see Alexander as another type of Jordan Davis. He can certainly do that, but that is not his preference in the position. He described his mindset about the way he plays the game.
“Just me getting off the ball and being very violent and being able to chase the ball from east to west,” he said.
He studies a lot of game tapes and is a very smart young man in the classroom. Alexander prioritizes his academics. This is transferred to the field.
“Just getting to know my Xs and Os,” Alexander said. “I think that’s what separates me a lot. I can chase a lot and try to get to football. This is what separates me from many of these other defensive attackers and then from my speed. “
Most schools that speak to him think that he can play up and down. Not just a Jordan Davis role. It is probably not your preference. He is probably more connected to Derrick Brown’s old 5-star mode, who stood out at Auburn before being called up in the first round by Carolina.
Most schools see Alexander as a “3” or “4i” technique on their fronts. Big Bear prefers to line up on a strange front.
“I don’t want to make two gaps,” he said. “I don’t want to be just a race limiter. I just want to go I want to be released. “
What is Georgia achieving here? What does he have to say about that?
“The best player and the best youth,” he said.
Look for him to wear No. 0 as a veteran at Ryan High and as a freshman in college. That’s his hope, but it may have something to do with Darnell Washington choosing a new number for the Bulldogs.
Check out a clip of Alexander’s highlights from the third round of the Texas high school playoffs below.
This is impressive, considering what he was already doing as a freshman at Terrell High School in Texas.
