Biden thrilled to discuss son Hunter’s book

President Biden told Norah O’Donnell of CBS in a new interview that reading excerpts from his son Hunter’s memoirs “gave me hope.”

“The honesty with which he came forward and talked about the problem … gave me hope when I read it,” said the president, becoming audibly moved when he spoke of his son’s struggles with substance abuse.

“It was like my son was back,” he added.

The president made the comments in an interview scheduled to air on Sunday, ahead of the Super Bowl, his first television interview since taking office.

“My son, like many people, like many people you know at home, had a drug problem,” replied Joe Biden at the time. “He overcame it, fixed it, worked on it and I’m proud of it.”

The president hit a similar note in his interview with O’Donnell, presenting his son’s struggles with addiction as relatable to many Americans.

“You know, I bet there is no family you know who doesn’t have someone in the family who has problems with drugs or alcohol,” he said.

Hunter Biden’s memoir, “Beautiful Things”, is set to be released in April and should openly address his drug use.

Hunter Biden confirmed late last year that the United States attorney’s office in Delaware was investigating his tax affairs. Reports suggest that the investigation focuses on his foreign affairs, which were the target of attacks by former President Trump during the campaign.

Hunter Biden is the president’s only living son. Her other son, Beau Biden, died in 2015 after a battle with brain cancer.
